Bio

Jennifer Schelhorn was born in a small town in upstate New York. Her somewhat eccentric parents had a strong influence on her artistic development. At the age of 5, her mother noticed her creative tendencies and put her in art classes. Despite growing up in the highly social and artistic Woodstock area, her parents sheltered her from a socially rich childhood and funneled her energy into art and music. After high school she continued on to earn her BFA from NY City College. Her experience working in several galleries in Chelsea inspired her to shed the framework of her upbringing and schooling and freely express her true artistic style. She is currently working as an artist and living in NYC.

Her creative process seeks to represent feelings and emotions through an iterative, layered expression of disorder. The paintings incorporate striking colors and textures to convey energy and spontaneity.  Despite the dynamic, abstract nature of the art, the intention is to focus on a particular concept.  The cohesion for these disparate concepts comes from the viewer’s engagement and interpretation of the art.
